SHIKOKU ISLAND
SHIKOKU
Shikoku is an island region located between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean, with airports in all four prefectures, and can be reached from Tokyo in about one to one and a half hours.
By land, access is possible by bus from Osaka, train from Okayama, and bus from Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture, a Shinkansen bullet train stop, via the Shimanami Kaido, famous for cycling.
Access
Shikoku is a large country, and although it is best to charter a private car to see the beautiful natural scenery, public transportation such as buses and trains are sufficient for travel between major cities such as Kochi, Takamatsu, and Matsuyama.
We recommend that you take a train to see the beautiful scenery.
Why do people make pilgrimages to Shikoku?
The Shikoku Pilgrimage began as a journey to follow in the footsteps of Kukai, who underwent ascetic training in this region and left behind numerous legends to accumulate merit, but now it has been succeeded as a journey that touches the heart of each person to reflect on oneself or to seek healing. Why don't you join us on this journey, feeling the desire to walk together with Kobo Daishi (Kukai), and supported by the local people who watch over you along the way?
